Update: i’m now more serious about the US. This is becoming serious long term strategic planning for retirement — good.

Thanks for sharing your ideas on investment. I recorded them for my reference. Your comments are welcome. What are your 2 alternative retirement plans?

—-Idea: work till 60+ as a hands-on developer, perhaps in the U.S.
There are many such jobs in the US that pay $70k/year. Not very demanding.

Choose a low-churn technology like c++

Role model? Old doctors, old accountants, grandpa

Key is my health – remain in “working condition”
—- Idea: teach in a poly.
Better specialize in a field where there’s not as much change as in IT.
—-Idea: emigrate to Australia/Canada and enjoy the state benefits
Jobs may be hard to get.
—- Idea: invest in a low-liquidity insurance plan with guaranteed return, similar to CPF Life
Actually my parents are earning state pension that’s exactly like annuity.
—- Idea: DIY investment,
Not reliable. May be at a loss in 20 years. Connie of AXA said if you have holding power then just invest in stock market.
Active management ? Perhaps not sustainable.
Using some mutual funds and ETFs but not single stocks

Many experts say over 15+ years the chance of capital loss is very low, ignoring inflation. However, it’s all based on historical performance. The analysis is probably based on a lot of high-quality bond allocation + some US equity allocation.
